Ratchet by Shamir

Shamir Bailey has been collecting praise for his striking countertenor and contagious dance-pop singles for the past year ("If It Wasn't True" and "On The Regular"). On Ratchet, Shamir's debut LP, the 20 year old Vegas native's androgynous voice coupled with production by the label Godmode grabs the ear and pulls its owner to the dance floor. Shamir's songs seem to warble everywhere between disparate narratives of thoughtless glitz and authenticity that Ratchet somehow seems to reconcile as we discover Shamir's dynamic character: cocky and coy and glamourous.
