Humor and Meaning in the Mundane

Courtney Barnett is a singer/songwriter/guitarist of lyrically driven indie rock. With a trio of EP's preceding this debut album, Courtney had steadily attracted attention first in her native Australia and then internationally. (A fame that she addresses in "Pedestrian At Best.") Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit released in 2015 and has earned her a myriad of music awards and nominations. The title provides a clue to the style of Courtney's music.

With sharp riffs and rhythms that range from the frantic to the mellow, the true life and charm of Courtney's music arise from her grounded perspective. A deadpan delivery that drones through the drums and guitars, Courtney voices witty and thoughtful tales and observations of the seemingly mundane. By the time an individual idled insignificantly on opener "Elevator Operator" I had already fallen in love.

Thanks, Australia.
