Chances Are Gospel Rap Is Good

And he back. And he back. The 23-year-old hip hop artist Chance the Rapper's third mixtape, Coloring Book, is out. Why is his third "mixtape" a big deal you might ask? Because Chance writes rhymes tight enough, has many friends fly enough, and builds hype high enough for him to make waves without the weight of a major label behind him. Coloring Book and his previous mixtape, Acid Rap, help cement this Chi-town rapper as one of today's greatest.

Chance collaborates all the time. And his mixtape is star-studded with voices and lines from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Future, and Justin Bieber to name just a few. This gospel rap album is carried by uplifting words and sounds of praise: not a sound that's typically featured on a hip hop album so prominently. A coloring book that is bright, diverse, melodic, and joyful; if you like your rap to feature references to Peter Pan, The Lion King, and Harry Potter then this may be for you. Grab your favorite crayon colors and plug them into your ears. Are you ready for your blessings?

Also, please remember to recognize the particular genius of Jay Electronica. Thank you.

Thanks, Chi-Town.
