Stranger in the Alps by Phoebe Bridgers
Announcing a Breakout Artist with Harmonious Whispers
Phoebe Bridgers broke onto the music scene with a voice that will haunt your nightmares as well as your daydreams. Her debut album, Stranger in the Alps, is utterly stunning! Along with enchanting vocals, Phoebe's songwriting is top class. "Emotional Motion Sickness" is such a splendid turn of phrase and an incredibly personal and powerful song as with the rest of the album. The listlessness, complicated pasts, heartache, and apathy cohere with fantastic production that enhances the chilly, aching tone of the album while giving each track a clear voice.
I'm still waiting patiently for her next record, but Phoebe has been everywhere! In the all-female supergroup boygenius, she joined Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus on tour and in an eponymous EP. Phoebe also teamed up with Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst for her song "Would You Rather" and a full-length album as Better Oblivion Community Center. She's been featured by or collaborated with tons of other artists I love! Fiona Apple, Matt Berninger (The National), Manchester Orchestra, Ethan Gruska, Lord Huron, and probably others! She's the best, and we all love her.
Thanks, LA County School for the Arts.
